Access welcomes Job Coach Rebecca Hill-Emslie

Sydney, NSW.  It is with great pleasure we welcome Rebecca Hill-Emslie to the team.  Rebecca’s role as Job Coach – Disability Employment Services, is interesting and varied so we asked Rebecca to tell us all about it.

Describe your role with Access
My role is outside the box which I love because it gives me the opportunity to work behind the scenes as well as on the production line alongside the supported employees.  I assist the supported employees to help them achieve their employment goals and objectives.

I work with the welfare officer and the safety & training officer with training, development of supported employees to establish effective work practices and relationships with their co-workers.

I also make sure everyone is happy doing the jobs they are doing and making changes where needed.

Tell us about your background, previous roles and achievements
I’ve worked in the disability sector for 4 years.  While I was studying for my diploma of community services through TAFE, I chose work experience with people with disability and haven’t looked back!

My previous roles have always been doing support work for day programs as well as some in-home care, mainly for clients with complex needs and behaviors.

In my previous role, I implemented strategies and techniques to make the programs more person-centered as opposed to a “one shoe fits all” approach.

What attracted you to this role?
This role presented a valuable opportunity to positively impact the community. I am dedicated to enhancing people’s lives, and my experience as a support worker will help me fulfill this. As a job coach, enabling supported employees to fulfill their objectives and reach their goals is rewarding as they are happy to see the progress they make.

Watching them progress through different job opportunities and training to reach their potential, such as using a pallet jack or palletize products, is amazing to witness.

What do you hope to achieve in this role?

I am eager to advance my career at Access, seeking opportunities for professional growth and development. Within this role I hope to achieve making a real difference for the supported employees, helping them to reach their goals and fulfill their potential of gaining open employment.
