Earlier this year our goal was to provide 15 new job placements for a person with disability, by end of June. We have reached 20 new placements. Providing new job placements in supported employment is made possible through our various fundraising activities. We are very grateful for the community’s support.
Supported employment
Access Industries believes in a holistic approach to employment support. In addition to excellent workplace facilities, we provide other services for supported employees to facilitate a supportive and productive workplace. These services are underpinned by the National Standards for Disability Services, and the NDIS Practice Standards, and provide an environment for each employee to achieve their workplace goals.
Of our 600 employees across five different sites around NSW, around 240 are supported employees, working alongisde their peers to achieve their empoyment and social goals.
Our Supported Employment services include:
- Individual Employment Plan (IEP) that outlines your employment goals and identifies other areas of support needed
- Welfare Officers who support you with personal issues
- Safety and Training Officers who work with you to achieve your employment goals
- One-on-one training
- Internal group training
- Annual Presidents’ Award for work commitment and/or outstanding personal development
- Service Awards Recognition
- Flexible work hours to meet your needs
- Safety Awareness sessions (led by supported employees and their managers)
Work experience
Access Industries has a regular Work Experience Program for high school students with disability.
Year 11 and 12 students from schools in Newcastle and Sydney engage in weekly work experience on site. They are supported in developing hands-on skills in preparation for the workplace.
Our employees without disability work alongside the students, mentoring them in small groups to ensure the job gets done, and to supervise Workplace Health and Safety.
For some of these students, the program offers a seamless pathway to meaningful work when they leave school. For many parents “it gives us hope that there are options for employment for our children when they leave school”.
